Zalety: duża pojemność przy stosunkowo niewielkich rozmiarach, mała rezystancja i mała indukcyjność. Kondensatory elektrolityczne pracują poprawnie tylko przy określonej polaryzacji (z wyjątkiem tzw. kondensatorów bipolarnych) i biegun ujemny (minus) zawsze jest nadrukowany na obudowie.
